Setup Instructions - HP OfficeJet Pro 9015

Steps to setup and configure printing at home with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015

*If the printer is already unboxed, it has already been initialized. In that case Skip to STEP (B)

STEP (A) Starting from still in shipping box:

  • Unbox. Box contains printer, power cable and (4) Starter ink cartridges (Black, M, C and Y)
  • Plug in power and turn on
  • From the front panel, select and confirm language and country
  • When prompted, open front panel and install ink cartridges. Slide in gently, with HP logo up. Requires just a ‘one push’ to engage. When finished, close front panel and touch ‘OK’.
  • Load letter size paper into the bottom tray
  • When prompted, press ‘Continue’ to ‘Align Print head’. An Alignment sheet will eventually print out after a minute or so.
  • When prompted, load the Alignment sheet into the document feeder face up and press ‘Scan’. When done press ‘Ok’.
  • When you see the ‘?’ on the screen, press and select ‘Network Setup’.
  • Whether you plan on printing wirelessly, or printing with the supplied USB printer cable, or both, select ‘Wireless’ from the screen. This will show a list of wireless networks, select your home network. If you do not have home wireless network, then Skip to STEP (B).
  • Touch to enter wireless password, then ‘Done’, then ‘OK’
  • After a moment, you will see a TCP/IP address displayed. Write this down for later. Typically it’s in the form of ‘192.168.x.x, where ‘x’ is unique to your home wifi.
  • At ‘Web Services’ select ‘Setup Later’, then ‘Continue’, ‘Skip’, Ok twice.

STEP (B)

  • Login to your laptop or Surface Pro.
  • Connect the USB Printer Cable between printer and pc. (do this even if you plan on using only wireless printing)
  • The pop up will indicate that it is setting up the printer. After about 2-3 minutes a pop up with notify that setup is complete.
  • ­­­­If you plan to print exclusively with direct wired USB cable printing, you may stop here. I recommend that you go to the Start button, then to Printers, then find the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010, right click it and select ‘Set as Default’. Otherwise, if wireless printing is desired, proceed to STEP (C)

STEP (C) Wireless Printing

  • On your Laptop or Surface Pro, go to the Start button and select ‘Printers’.
  • Select ‘Add Printer’
  • On next screen select ‘The printer that I want is not listed. Next.
  • Now, select radio button for ‘Add printer using TCP/IP address’. Next.
  • IF YOU DID NOT NEED TO DO STEP (A), THEN FOR THE NEXT STEP FIRST GO TO STEP (C2) BELOW TO CONNECT YOUR PRINTER TO YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK AND OBTAIN THE TCP/IP ADDRESS, THEN RETURN HERE.
  • Type in the ‘Host Name’ field the TCP/IP address you saved from STEP (A), then next/next.
  • You may wish to edit the printer name to reflect it is the wireless HP 9010.
  • Select ‘Do Not Share’, Next, then Set as Default, then Finish.

STEP (C2)

  • From the front panel of the printer, touch the ‘gear’ or ‘sprocket’ looking icon, then on the following screen, touch the ‘gear’ again.
  • Select ‘Network Setup’
  • Select ‘Wireless Settings’
  • Select ‘Wireless Setup Wizard’
  • Yes
  • Select your home wifi network, ‘Touch’ to enter your passcode and the printer will connect.
  • Make note of the TCP/IP address, return to above step and enter address in ‘Host Name’ field on your computer screen.
